Lake Country provides a gorgeous backdrop for family photos, with diverse environments that are sure to speak to every family. And while there are so many locations to choose from, sometimes it can be hard to know which spot will best create the look you are searching for. At Lauren Kreibich Photography, we have spent countless hours scouting the best photoshoot locations in Lake Country for family photos. And, after photographing at these locations many times, we know how to bring out the best in each location to deliver stunning photos every time.

Here are some of our favorite locations for family photos in the Lake Country area.

Retzer Nature Center

Retzer Nature Center is a favorite among photographers, and for clear reasons. There are many different backdrops within the park, including gorgeous rows of trees, lush greenery, and vast prairie. In the evening, the sun hits just right, casting a golden light that gives family photos a warm, dreamy quality. It’s hard to beat this all-in-one fantastic location.

Nashotah Park

Nashotah Park is nicely located in the center of Lake Country off Highway 16. Not only is its location easy to access, but it’s also a perfect place if anyone in your family has accessibility concerns. There are several pathways surrounded by gorgeous plants and flowers, and the trees in the fall create a perfect, colorful background that is a signature of southeastern WI. Entrance to the park requires a county park sticker.

Ottawa Lake

Ottawa Lake is a little gem tucked away just south of Lake Country in Ottawa, WI. While the lake is small, the beach is intimate, and sunsets over the lake make for a truly summer feel. There are also walking paths that offer a more natural, green background, making this a wonderful place to capture variety.

Lannon Sunflower Farm

Lannon Sunflower Farm is perfect for families who want a little more color in their family photos. The fall brings sunflowers and other wildflowers, which also make for a fun family activity with young children and lead to beautiful candid snapshots of your family enjoying each other’s company. You must pay the minimal entrance fee, and with that, you get to walk away with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

Frame Park

Frame Park in Waukesha is unique in that there are some architectural elements that bring structure and visual interest to your portraits. In the late summer and fall, you’ll also find incredibly colorful flowers, and the river is nearby. It’s a perfect place to create variety and bring a pop of color into your photos.

Many of my clients own beautiful lakefront property or have access to private spaces that make for stunning portraits. Choosing a personal space creates a meaningful experience and a sense of uniqueness and intimacy about your family portraits. While there are so many wonderful locations to choose from in Lake Country, some families prefer a clean, studio look for their family portraits. This is also a great option for holiday sessions or winter photos so that you don’t have to worry about the unpredictability of the weather.
